This counselling contract is a formal agreement between the counsellor and the client, establishing the framework for a professional, ethical, and effective counselling relationship. It outlines the rights and responsibilities of both parties, and clarifies expectations to foster an environment of trust, safety, and mutual respect.

Confidentiality

All information shared within counselling sessions is confidential and will not be disclosed to any third party without the client's written consent, except in the following circumstances:

· Where there is a risk of harm to the client or others

· If required by law (e.g., court order, safeguarding concerns)

· If the counsellor receives information about serious criminal activity

· To ensure your privacy I do not accept requests on social media - contact can be made via email or telephone.

I am a member of the BACP. I do attend supervision every four weeks to ensure I am practising within the guidelines working ethically and professionally with clients. I can assure you I will not be identifying clients by their names.

I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) to comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to ensure clients confidentiality.

Structure of Sessions

· Session Duration: Standard sessions last 50 minutes

· Frequency: Typically, weekly, unless agreed otherwise

· Method of Delivery: In-person/online/ telephone/walk and talk

Either party may end the counselling relationship at any time, ideally with notice and a final session to review progress and discuss next steps. Regular reviews of the counselling process are encouraged to ensure the client's needs are being met.

 

Fees and Payment

· Payment method: Cash / Bank Transfer £60.00 per session

· Account number

· Fee to be paid 48 hours in advance of the session

· Cancellation policy: At least 48 hours' notice is required to cancel or reschedule a session. Sessions cancelled with less notice will be charged in full.

• Any changes to fees or payment terms will be communicated with reasonable notice.

Attendance and Punctuality

Clients are expected to attend sessions on time. If the client is running late, the counsellor will wait for 10 minutes before considering the session being cancelled. Sessions that begin late cannot be extended beyond the agreed finish time.

Responsibilities of the Client

· To attend sessions as scheduled, or give appropriate notice if unable to attend

· To participate actively and honestly in the therapeutic process

· To communicate openly about any difficulties or changes in needs

· To respect the boundaries and guidelines established in this contract

Emergencies and Crisis Support

Counselling sessions are not a substitute for emergency assistance. In the event of a crisis requiring immediate support, the client should contact emergency services or attend the nearest emergency department. The counsellor will provide information about crisis resources as needed.
